Dave’s Under-The-Radar Favorites of 2018:

Here are 10 of my favorite films that didn’t make my Top 10 list.  Click the titles below for my reviews.

  1. “Mission Impossible: Fallout” – Possibly the best one of the franchise.
  2.  “Widows” – Ignored but terrific thriller.
  3. “A Quiet Place” – Best horror movie of the year.
  4.  “Creed II” – A worthy addition to the “Rocky” franchise.
  5. “Wildlife” – A marriage on the rocks – ignored AAW performance by Carey Mulligan.
  6. “Searching” – Interesting who-done-it with most of the film recorded on an iPhone or computer.
  7. “Kodachrome” – Emotionally-compelling Netflix film about a conflictual father/son relationship.
  8. “Hunter Killer” – Overlooked action thriller that deserved a better fate.
  9. “Tully” – Creative screenplay by Diablo Cody – Interesting Comedy/Drama with depth.
  10.  “Mary Poppins Returns” – Not as good as “Mary Poppins,” but it’s still very enjoyable and fun.

I have loved the movies ever since I saw “The Wizard of Oz” as a young boy. When Beatle-mania hit the USA, Rock-N-Roll was my greatest passion, but I haven’t enjoyed the current music scene nearly as much over the past 15 years, so that void has been filled by film. In college and med school, I would see movies with my friends and we would stay up late into the night chatting about them. I still love seeing movies with friends and then having dinner to discuss them. This blog evolved out of my desire to tell my movie-loving friends about movies I thought they would enjoy. The blog allows me to do this in a fun way and to reach movie fans everywhere.
