The Fall Guy: Won’t “Stunt” Your Growth!

David Leitch (Director) started out as a stunt-double for many famous actors, including Brad Pitt and Jean-Claude Van Damme.  His directorial debut was none other than “John Wick.”  Leitch has made a fun, entertaining movie, with two very likable stars.  The movie is a homage to stunt-men, the un-sung heroes of action films, who work behind the scenes, risk their lives, and get little credit or money for their work.  The film jams in about as many stunts as possible – some pretty amazing – but, in addition to an action movie, it’s also a romantic comedy/murder mystery.

Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling) is the stunt-double for the #1 box office action star, Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson).  Colt and a camera woman on the set, Jody Moreno (Emily “Blunt” – known for her beauty, but not her tact), have a good thing going and are looking forward to a vacation on a beach somewhere after the movie is finished.  Tragically, Colt breaks his back in a dangerous stunt.  He soon tailspins into a depression, goes off the grid, and abandons Jody, who wanted to “be there” for him.  Colt’s back heals pretty well, but he feels too humiliated and embarrassed to ever work as a stunt-double again.  He now works as a valet, parking cars at a Mexican restaurant.

Eighteen months after the accident, Jody has moved on and is now directing her first film.  The producer, Gail (Hannah Waddingham), calls Colt and tells him that Jody wants him to be the stunt-double for her film.

Colt arrives on the set, but Gail has lied to him.  Jody is furious at Colt about how their love-affair ended.  Further complicating things, the star of the movie, Tom Ryder, has disappeared from the set, causing the movie to go over-budget.  The studio is even threatening to shut the filming down.

Will Jody and Colt patch things up?  Will Jody’s first film get finished and will it be a hit?  Will Tom Ryder be found?!  See it at the theater before you rent it in the “fall” and find out now!  (It’s also better on the B.S. because the stunts are very cool.)

I have loved the movies ever since I saw “The Wizard of Oz” as a young boy. When Beatle-mania hit the USA, Rock-N-Roll was my greatest passion, but I haven’t enjoyed the current music scene nearly as much over the past 15 years, so that void has been filled by film. In college and med school, I would see movies with my friends and we would stay up late into the night chatting about them. I still love seeing movies with friends and then having dinner to discuss them. This blog evolved out of my desire to tell my movie-loving friends about movies I thought they would enjoy. The blog allows me to do this in a fun way and to reach movie fans everywhere.
