Now in the 4th month of movie theater withdrawal, it hasn’t been easy to find a reason to live.  This film isn’t it, but it’s still fun.

Nyles (Andy Samberg) and his girlfriend, Misty (Meredith Hagner), are at a wedding in Palm Springs.  They wake up the morning of the wedding and start having sex.  Even though Misty is quite pretty, Nyles seems bored to tears.  Nyles could care less about the wedding and even makes a scene, apparently for his own amusement.  It turns out that poor Nyles has been stuck in a time loop and has lived this day over and over, seemingly forever.  He has tried to kill himself to end the ennui, but he just wakes up in the morning, living the same day over.

Nyles starts spending time with Sarah (Cristin Milioti), the maid of honor and the older sister of the bride.  Sarah has problems, including excessive drinking and promiscuity, while her younger sister is a star.  Also stuck in the loop and wanting to hurt Nyles is Roy (J.K. Simmons), although we don’t know why.  Although Nyles can’t be killed, Roy’s arrows hitting him in the thigh still hurt.

Sarah and Nyles sneak off from the wedding party for some casual sex, but Sarah then winds up caught in the time loop too!  Now they are stuck with each other, for better or for worse.  Can Nyles and Sarah escape the time loop?  Will they fall in love or torture each other for eternity?

There’s a nice chemistry between Samberg and Milioti, and there are some very funny scenes.  The film even touches on some serious themes such as loneliness and helplessness.  After you’ve finished a show on a streaming service, if you have Hulu, check this movie out before you binge-watch the next series.

I have loved the movies ever since I saw “The Wizard of Oz” as a young boy. When Beatle-mania hit the USA, Rock-N-Roll was my greatest passion, but I haven’t enjoyed the current music scene nearly as much over the past 15 years, so that void has been filled by film. In college and med school, I would see movies with my friends and we would stay up late into the night chatting about them. I still love seeing movies with friends and then having dinner to discuss them. This blog evolved out of my desire to tell my movie-loving friends about movies I thought they would enjoy. The blog allows me to do this in a fun way and to reach movie fans everywhere.
