There’s “slim pickins” out there in movie land right now, but, if you like martial arts/action films, you will love this one!  As the title indicates, there have already been two John Wick films.  I don’t think it would be advantageous to summarize in much detail what’s happened in the first two (in case, after you see this one, you want to go watch those).  Suffice it to say, John Wick (Keanu Reeves) was a retired legendary assassin, but he bolted into action again when someone killed his beloved dog (as seen in the original film).

The assassins are ruled by an organization known as “The High Table.”  In “John Wick 2,” John violates a very important “High Table” rule, resulting in him getting ex-communicated from the organization.  “High Table” puts out a hit contract on him with a reward of $14 million.  Every assassin in the organization now wants to kill him – not just for the money, but for the status of being the one to kill a legend!  John, in NYC at this time, is given a one-hour head-start before the contract begins.

It seems like just about every person in NYC is out to kill him!  There is essentially a fight-to-the-death scene every few minutes.  Fortunately, John is owed favors by a few organization members – one of them being Sofia, played by the ever-beautiful Halle Berry.  These favors are critical in helping him to remain alive!  A seemingly-invincible ninja, Zero (Mark Dacasos) and a cadre of his students are also hot on his trail.

This film has fist fights, martial arts fights, gun fights, sword fights, knife fights, dog fights, and motorcycle fights, just to name a few – all beautifully choreographed.  There are also occasional moments of comic relief.

Keanu Reeves is perfect for the role, and I can’t wait for “John Wick 4.”  Bottom line: John ‘Wick’ films burn the ‘candle’ at both ends!

I have loved the movies ever since I saw “The Wizard of Oz” as a young boy. When Beatle-mania hit the USA, Rock-N-Roll was my greatest passion, but I haven’t enjoyed the current music scene nearly as much over the past 15 years, so that void has been filled by film. In college and med school, I would see movies with my friends and we would stay up late into the night chatting about them. I still love seeing movies with friends and then having dinner to discuss them. This blog evolved out of my desire to tell my movie-loving friends about movies I thought they would enjoy. The blog allows me to do this in a fun way and to reach movie fans everywhere.
