Incredibles 2: Totally Super!

If you liked Pixar’s “The Incredibles” – the 2004 animated classic by Brad Bird – you won’t be disappointed with the sequel, “Incredibles 2,” also written and directed by Bird (no relation to Larry).  It has been 14 years since super-heroes became illegal, and it’s been a difficult period for the Parr family – Bob/Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson), Helen/Elastigirl (Holly Hunter), Violett (Sarah Vowell), Dashiell/Dash (Huck Miller), and the baby, Jack-Jack (Eli Fucile).  The Super-Hero program has been discontinued, and the Parr family will be homeless unless Mr. Incredible gets a regular 9-5 job.

Fortunately, a billionaire business mogul, Winston Deavor (Bob Odenkirk), and his sister, Evelyn (Catherine Keener), has a plan to put the super-heroes “back on the map!”  He will attach a body cam to a super-hero and playback the footage on TV and social media, so everyone can see all the great deeds super-heroes do.  There will then be a groundswell of support to legalize super-heroes again.  Since Mr. Incredible tends to leave a lot of damage in his wake when he fights a villain, Winston chooses Elastigirl for the first two missions, which then requires Mr. Incredible to become a house-husband (quite a challenging transition for him).  Unfortunately, the villain Screenslaver wants to sabotage Winston’s brilliant plan!

As far as animated films go, this is about as good as it gets.  It’s exciting, funny, has an interesting plot, and all the main characters are well-developed.  However, Holly Hunter deserves special props, as she gives a truly “incredible” performance.

I anticipate that it will win the A.A. for Best Animated Film.  It maintains all the good things about the original and expands on it with new, timely themes.  It’s a MUST-SEE!  I don’t think there will be too many films that will be on a “Parr” with it, either!

I have loved the movies ever since I saw “The Wizard of Oz” as a young boy. When Beatle-mania hit the USA, Rock-N-Roll was my greatest passion, but I haven’t enjoyed the current music scene nearly as much over the past 15 years, so that void has been filled by film. In college and med school, I would see movies with my friends and we would stay up late into the night chatting about them. I still love seeing movies with friends and then having dinner to discuss them. This blog evolved out of my desire to tell my movie-loving friends about movies I thought they would enjoy. The blog allows me to do this in a fun way and to reach movie fans everywhere.
