I didn’t see all of the 20+ films in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), but I saw plenty of them with my sons, so I wanted to see “Avengers: Endgame.”  Although it was too long (clocking in at 3 hours), if you see it, I doubt that you will be disappointed!  It’s a much better film than “Avengers: Infinity War,” and consider this your spoiler warning for that film if you haven’t seen it yet!

As you may or may not recall (depending on how far along you may be on the “Alzheimer’s Spectrum”), in “Infinity War,” the beyond-evil Thanos (Josh Brolin) had annihilated half the universe’s population including some of our heroes – among them Black Panther and Spider-Man.  Thanos was able to accomplish this amazing feat by discovering and possessing all six “Infinity Stones.”  The remaining Avengers unite and develop a risky and complicated plan to travel back in time, find the “Infinity Stones” before Thanos does, get all six, and undo what Thanos did.  This will restore the universe, and our fallen heroes will return.  The bad news is that the plan, brilliant though it may be, has only about a one in 14-million chance of succeeding.  All the Avengers are risking their lives, and it’s likely that even if the mission succeeds, some of them will perish.

There’s plenty of action, but, due to the film’s length, there is also ample time for considerable character development.  We get to know our heroes even better than we did before.  All the Avengers are in the film, with the prominent roles going to Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), and Paul Rudd (Ant Man).

Bottom Line: The film wraps up about a decade of films, most of them with complicated plot lines, in a satisfying and emotionally-compelling way.  Considering the difficulty of the project, I think they did a terrific job.

I have loved the movies ever since I saw “The Wizard of Oz” as a young boy. When Beatle-mania hit the USA, Rock-N-Roll was my greatest passion, but I haven’t enjoyed the current music scene nearly as much over the past 15 years, so that void has been filled by film. In college and med school, I would see movies with my friends and we would stay up late into the night chatting about them. I still love seeing movies with friends and then having dinner to discuss them. This blog evolved out of my desire to tell my movie-loving friends about movies I thought they would enjoy. The blog allows me to do this in a fun way and to reach movie fans everywhere.
