Toy Story 4: Another Masterpiece!

“Toy Story” was released in 1995, “Toy Story 2” in 1999, and “Toy Story 3” in 2010.  I thought they were all wonderful, and “Toy Story 4” lives up to the high standard of the first three!  If you’ve enjoyed these prior films, it’s a MUST-SEE!  The animation is phenomenal, so the movie must be seen on the BS.

The toys from “Toy Story 3,” including Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) have been inherited by a five-year-old Bonnie (Madeleine McGraw), who is about to start her first day at Kindergarten.  Bonnie is very anxious and she doesn’t want to go.  Woody, who hasn’t been getting much attention from Bonnie recently and worries that he’s becoming boring and irrelevant to her, decides that he must accompany her to school in order to help her make a successful adjustment.  Bonnie is freaking out at school, but Woody comes to her rescue by helping Bonnie to find items to build a new toy, “Forky” (Tony Hale), who immediately becomes her transitional object and favorite toy.

Much happens from there, including Woody reuniting with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), who went missing in “Toy Story 3.”  The film’s plot works fine for a child, but there are much deeper levels to the movie as well, including themes of dependence, love, loyalty, friendship, sacrifice, reaching your full potential, and discovering and fulfilling your destiny.  The soundtrack with Randy Newman songs is excellent, too!

The movie is emotionally-compelling and I was moved to tears by the wonderful ending.

Bottom Line: “Toy Story 4” will probably win the Academy Award for “Best Animated Film!”  Make sure to ‘catch the Buzz’ while you can!

I have loved the movies ever since I saw “The Wizard of Oz” as a young boy. When Beatle-mania hit the USA, Rock-N-Roll was my greatest passion, but I haven’t enjoyed the current music scene nearly as much over the past 15 years, so that void has been filled by film. In college and med school, I would see movies with my friends and we would stay up late into the night chatting about them. I still love seeing movies with friends and then having dinner to discuss them. This blog evolved out of my desire to tell my movie-loving friends about movies I thought they would enjoy. The blog allows me to do this in a fun way and to reach movie fans everywhere.
