I’ve had a crush on Evangeline Lilly ever since the TV series “Lost” where she stared as Kate Austen, so I wan’t going to miss this one. I also thought “Ant-Man” was a very good super-hero movie, so I was up for the sequel. Although I enjoyed the first “Ant-Man” a little more, there’s still much to recommend about “Ant-Man and the Wasp.”
Scott Lang/Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) got into major trouble on his last Ant-Man mission (where he assisted Captain America as seen in “Captain America: Civil War”) and failed to consult with his lover, Hope/The Wasp (Evangeline Lilly) before going on the mission – effectively putting the “nail in the coffin” of their torrid romance. He also stole an Ant-Man suit from Hope’s father, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), who now isn’t a big fan of Scott’s either. In addition, Scott is under house arrest for helping out Capt. America, and, if he violates it, he will be in jail for twenty years.
Hope’s mother and Hank’s wife, Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer), has been stranded in the “Quantum Realm” for about 30 years. Scott has a dream about her and tells Hank and Hope about it, which makes them think that Janet is still alive and that she can be rescued. The laboratory that Hank needs to rescue Hope can be shrunk and moved, but a criminal syndicate is trying to steal the lab and sell it to the highest bidder! Another super-hero, “Ghost” (Hannah John-Kamen), has a major health problem, and also wants to steal the lab because she thinks that, by extracting Janet’s quantum energy, she can heal herself – although Janet will probably die in the process! Ant-Man is needed to help rescue Janet, so he must leave his house, risking his freedom.
Can Scott/Ant-Man and Hope/The Wasp prevent the lab from being stolen and rescue Janet from the “Quantum Realm?” Will Scott and Hope kiss and make up?
Rudd and Lilly have terrific chemistry, and there are some exciting scenes and, at times, very good special effects. If you saw “Ant-Man” – or even if you didn’t – this is a good summer comic-book/super-hero movie with a good sense of humor.
I say trust “the buzz” – check out “Ant-Man and the Wasp” while you can!
