If you’re in the mood for a suspense/thriller that has a creative and interesting plot with two good-looking stars on the rise, you will enjoy “Drop.” You won’t think about the movie after it’s over, but it’s sure fun while you’re watching it!
Violet (Meghann Fahy from “The White Lotus” Season 2) has extricated herself from an extremely-physically-abusive and psychologically-traumatic marriage. She’s a psychiatrist who, after her escaping from the relationship, specializes in treating abused women. Years after her marriage has ended, she is finally ready for a relationship. She is going on her first date with a handsome man who she has been interacting with on a dating app for about three months. She is meeting him at a 5-star restaurant on top of a Chicago skyscraper. Her date texts her that he will be about ten minutes late, so Violet goes to the bar, orders a glass of wine, and starts interacting with the female bartender and some customers.
Her date, Henry (Brandon Sklenar) soon arrives, but Violet starts getting “drops” (like text messages) from an app called “Digi Drop.” The drops have a maximum range of 50 feet, so the sender must be in the restaurant. At first, the drops are just bad jokes and memes, but soon they turn threatening. She shows the first few drops to Henry, but then she gets a drop forbidding her from showing them to Henry anymore or telling him any details about the situation. One of the drops is a video that reveals that there is a hit-man in her house who will kill her 5-year-old son and sister (who is babysitting him) if she doesn’t follow instructions. As you can imagine, Violet is a bit distracted and isn’t very good company for Henry. I can’t reveal any more about the plot, but it will keep you entertained, and the last 30 minutes are terrific and very suspenseful. Additionally, the two stars have great chemistry together.
Will Violet be able to determine who is the drop sender at the restaurant and neutralize this individual (could be male or female), as well as the house hit-man, in order to save her son and sister? You will need to see it to find out! Why not “Drop by” the theater soon and see it?
