Dave’s Favorite 10 Movies for 2025!

These are my Favorite Movies of 2025.  Only three on my list received A.A. nominations for Best Picture.  You might consider this list to be an “under-the radar” Top 7!  I think they are all very good movies,  which are well-worth watching.  Click the movie names for the reviews, if you are interested.

  1. Bau: Artist At War
  2. Sentimental Value
  3. The Life of Chuck
  4. Materialists
  5. Song Sung Blue
  6. Hamnet
  7. Oh, Hi
  8. Caught Stealing
  9. Relay
  10. F1

I won’t predict the winners of the A.A.s, but below are my picks for the major awards.

Best Picture: Hamnet

Best Actor in a Leading Role: Timothee Chalamet for Marty Supreme
Best Supporting Actor: Stellan Skarsgård for Sentimental Value

Best Actress in a Leading Role: Jesse Buckley for Hamnet – barely nosing out Kate Hudson for Song Sung Blue
Best Supporting Actress: Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas for Sentimental Value

Best International Feature Film: Sentimental Value

Best Director: Joachim Trier for Sentimental Value

I have loved the movies ever since I saw “The Wizard of Oz” as a young boy. When Beatle-mania hit the USA, Rock-N-Roll was my greatest passion, but I haven’t enjoyed the current music scene nearly as much over the past 15 years, so that void has been filled by film. In college and med school, I would see movies with my friends and we would stay up late into the night chatting about them. I still love seeing movies with friends and then having dinner to discuss them. This blog evolved out of my desire to tell my movie-loving friends about movies I thought they would enjoy. The blog allows me to do this in a fun way and to reach movie fans everywhere.
