The reviews were mediocre but my 14 year old son wanted to see it so I “took one for the team” and went. I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed it, except for the last 20 minutes.
The effortless and wonderful chemistry between real life lovers (Emma Stone-Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker/Spider-Man-Andrew Garfield) is the strength and backbone of the film.
The plot is good for most of the movie and there is an interesting villain (Jamie Foxx-Electro). The film has a nice balance between action and drama as well as some outstanding special effects.
For a comic book movie there is surprising depth and good character development, especially the relationship between Peter and his Aunt May (Sally Field).
Don’t get caught in the web of negative reviews and see Spider-Man 2 before it leaves the theaters. It won’t work nearly as well as a rental.
