Favorite American Films:  La La Land - Lived up to the hype  Nocturnal Animals - Brilliant screenplay and great acting  Edge of Seventeen - One of the great 'High School' films  Hidden Figures - Terrific true story, well-told  Fences - Complex drama with great acting  Cafe Society - Funny and interesting story  Don't Think Twice - Very funny film about an improv group  Sing Street - Not quite 'La La Land,' but darned good  Hell or High Water - Well-acted and interesting drama  Manchester By the Sea - Very good screenplay and fine performance by Casey Affleck Favorite Foreign Films:  A Man Called Ove  The Salesman  Labyrinth of Lies Favorite Documentaries:  The Witness  The People vs. O.J.
