For those of you who have seen at least one of the first three “John Wick” films, this one is more of the same, but it’s longer, more stylized, and has a higher budget.  It’s a great concept, and Keanu Reeves is perfect for the part.  It’s too long at 169 minutes, but why quibble?   Despite its length, I had a really good time.

John Wick (Reeves) was once a premier paid assassin of the world’s most powerful crime organization, “The High Table.”  After his wife died, he wanted out, but “The High Table” wouldn’t allow it, so they put out a multi-million bounty on his head, with all the “High Table” assassins trying to kill him.

In this fourth installment, the current head of “The High Table,” the Marquis de Gramont (Bill Skarsgård) wants Wick eliminated and has raised the bounty even higher.  The Marquis has even coerced Wick’s assassin friend, Caine (Donnie Yen), into agreeing to kill Wick or “The High Table” will kill Caine’s daughter!

The film consists of hundreds of “High Table” assassins trying to kill Wick.  There are short and long fight sequences that are wonderfully choreographed.  There are gun fights, sword fights, knife fights, hand-to-hand combat scenes, with Wick fighting off dozens at once (all by himself most of the time).

Will Wick still triumph over “The High Table,” or will they finally have his number?!

Bottom Line: “John Wick” still burns brightly!

I have loved the movies ever since I saw “The Wizard of Oz” as a young boy. When Beatle-mania hit the USA, Rock-N-Roll was my greatest passion, but I haven’t enjoyed the current music scene nearly as much over the past 15 years, so that void has been filled by film. In college and med school, I would see movies with my friends and we would stay up late into the night chatting about them. I still love seeing movies with friends and then having dinner to discuss them. This blog evolved out of my desire to tell my movie-loving friends about movies I thought they would enjoy. The blog allows me to do this in a fun way and to reach movie fans everywhere.
