F9: A High-Flying Great Action Movie!

I prefer dramas to action movies, but I enjoy a good Bond or Mission Impossible film as much as anyone.  (By the way, not to be a name dropper or anything, but my family met the late, great Sean Connery at my sister’s house in the Bahamas one Thanksgiving, where my wife engaged – and more than held her own – in a now-legendary debate with Connery on the importance of the father in the family!)

This ninth installment of the “Fast and Furious” franchise ranks with the top third of those action films.  It has a great plot, interesting heroes and villains, wonderful chase scenes, terrific choreographed fights, and amazing stunts!  Is it realistic?  No.  But, if I wanted realism, I’d stay home and read a biography!  It has to be seen on the BS, is a MUST-SEE and is AAW (although these B-action movies never get nominated).

Dominic “Dom” Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his wife, Letty, are off-the-radar, living on a farm while raising their son.  However, an international emergency demands that they, along with their amazingly-talented team, save the world!  Otto (Thue Ersted Rasmussen) has almost completed his diabolical plan to join the two halves of a top-secret device which can control all the security networks of every country, which will make him the dictator of the world!  This will occur about 30 minutes after the information is uploaded to a secret satellite that he has already launched, and the team has to capture the device and prevent Otto from getting the information to the satellite.  There are other villains working with Otto to thwart Dom and his team, including the previously-captured Cipher (the ever-beautiful Charlize Theron).

Will Dom and his team save the day again?  If we’re totally honest, the outcome of these films is never really in doubt, but the action and excitement will entrance you along the way!

I have loved the movies ever since I saw “The Wizard of Oz” as a young boy. When Beatle-mania hit the USA, Rock-N-Roll was my greatest passion, but I haven’t enjoyed the current music scene nearly as much over the past 15 years, so that void has been filled by film. In college and med school, I would see movies with my friends and we would stay up late into the night chatting about them. I still love seeing movies with friends and then having dinner to discuss them. This blog evolved out of my desire to tell my movie-loving friends about movies I thought they would enjoy. The blog allows me to do this in a fun way and to reach movie fans everywhere.
