Although most of us believe in free-will (despite considerable neurological evidence indicating otherwise), I felt eager and compelled to see this film, since I was a big fan of the books and had seen the first 3.  I loved the first two films, but I thought the third was awful.

This fourth film was essentially doomed when the Producers, wanting to ride the “gravy-train,” decided to turn the third and final book of Suzanne Collins’ “The Hunger Games” trilogy – “Mockingjay” – into a 2-part movie.  Thus, Mockingjay Part 1 and Part 2 were “bloated” and way too long.  Am sure many fans of the books were “hungry for less” and would have preferred one, instead of two, films.  (This marketing strategy may have backfired, since there may be less revenues from Part 1 and 2 than there would have been from one very good movie.)  Mockingjay Part 2 is better than Part 1 and is faithful to the book, but it is nowhere nearly as good as the first two movies. The same cast returns, although the late, great, Phillip Seymour Hoffman  (as Plutarch) has only one brief scene.

As far as the plot goes, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) is a major player in the rebellion of the Districts to overthrow the evil Dictator of Panam, President Snow (Donald Sutherland).  The rebellion is being orchestrated by Alma Coin (Julianne Moore), but she may have ulterior motives. We also have the resolution the the love triangle between Katniss, Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and Gale (Liam Hemsworth).

The film is at least 30 minutes too long, and there are only a few exciting scenes, which don’t nearly match the intensity and suspense of the first two films.

This movie isn’t quite a “turkey,” but I am thankful that I don’t have to see a 5th film.  I would pass, unless you’ve seen the first films of the series.

Have a great Thanksgiving Holiday.

I have loved the movies ever since I saw “The Wizard of Oz” as a young boy. When Beatle-mania hit the USA, Rock-N-Roll was my greatest passion, but I haven’t enjoyed the current music scene nearly as much over the past 15 years, so that void has been filled by film. In college and med school, I would see movies with my friends and we would stay up late into the night chatting about them. I still love seeing movies with friends and then having dinner to discuss them. This blog evolved out of my desire to tell my movie-loving friends about movies I thought they would enjoy. The blog allows me to do this in a fun way and to reach movie fans everywhere.
