This film was directed by Jodie Foster.  It has an excellent cast, so I figured it would be pretty good.  It’s a better-than-average rental, but not quite good enough to make a trip to the BS.

Kyle Budwell (Jack O’Connell) is mad, and he’s not going to take it anymore!  He bought $60,000 worth of “Ibis Clear Capital” stock (all the money he had) based on Lee Gates’ recommendation that the stock was “safer than a bank CD.”  Apparently, Kyle didn’t believe in diversification.  Lee is the host of a financial show, “Money Monster” (similar to Jim Cramer’s “Mad Money”). Unfortunately for Kyle, Ibis suddenly dropped by 80%, which CEO Walt Camby (Dominic West) claims was due to a “computer glitch” in one of their algorithms.

Kyle storms into the “Money Monster” TV studio with a gun and a vest filled with explosives.  He threatens to shoot and/or blow up Lee and others involved with the show, including Director Patty Fenn (Julia Roberts), unless he can speak to Camby and get some answers.

Will Kyle kill Lee and possibly other Money Monster employees?  Will Kyle get shot by the SWAT Team before he can wreak any havoc?  The film has some very interesting and, at times, quite humorous dialogue, is consistently suspenseful, and it holds your attention fairly well, but you won’t learn anything about finance like one did with “The Big Short.”  Clooney is great and Roberts does a fine job too.  I enjoyed it, but it’s pure fluff.

I have loved the movies ever since I saw “The Wizard of Oz” as a young boy. When Beatle-mania hit the USA, Rock-N-Roll was my greatest passion, but I haven’t enjoyed the current music scene nearly as much over the past 15 years, so that void has been filled by film. In college and med school, I would see movies with my friends and we would stay up late into the night chatting about them. I still love seeing movies with friends and then having dinner to discuss them. This blog evolved out of my desire to tell my movie-loving friends about movies I thought they would enjoy. The blog allows me to do this in a fun way and to reach movie fans everywhere.
