Bridget Jones’s Baby

After a six-year acting time-out, Renee Zellweger (as Bridget Jones) returns in fine form in "Bridget Jones's Baby," the third film in the Bridget Jones series.  The first ("Bridget Jones's Diary" - 2001) is an all-time classic!  Renee was nominated for an Academy Award, even though it was just a comedy!  The second film ("Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason" - 2004) wasn't nearly as good.  I didn't have high hopes for this one, speculating that the producers had "gone to the well" once too often, but I was pleasantly surprised.  It's a warm-hearted, very funny, feel-good film that is worth a trip to the BS now!  Zellweger owns this character and she's fantastic.  Colin Firth (as Mark Darcy) and Patrick Dempsey (as Jack Quant) also do a fine job. Bridget is all alone in her flat on her 43rd birthday.  She has no man in her life, but she has a good job and she is in great shape.  Her friend Shazza (Sally Philips) takes her to a music festival to hear some music and get laid.  She has a one-night stand with Jack, but has no plans to see him again.  About a week later, she meets her old lover, Mark, and learns that he is separated.  She sleeps with him, too.  She soon learns that she is pregnant, doesn't know who the father is, and isn't in any hurry to find out, either! I won't reveal any more about the plot, but the film is clever and holds your interest throughout.  I'm really glad I saw it, and, if you like romantic comedies, make sure to catch this one.
