I haven’t had much free time on the weekends (and there were only a couple of movies out there that I felt like seeing),  so I haven’t posted for a couple weeks.  This movie was better than I anticipated, even though it had good reviews.  It defies categorization – it’s a mystery, drama, sci-fi, horror, suspense-filled film.  If I reveal too much about the plot, I will spoil it.  Suffice it to say, it is a thrilling and scary movie that, in this bleak movie season, is a “Must-See.”

Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has just broken up with her boyfriend and is driving somewhere when she is run off the road and knocked unconscious.  When she comes to, she finds herself in a small room, lying on a bed, wearing a knee brace which is handcuffed to the wall.  Howard (John Goodman) informs her that he has heroically rescued her, taking her from her totaled car to his survival bunker.  While she was unconscious, some type of apocalypse occurred, and just about everyone in the United States as been wiped-out!  He doesn’t know if the attack was from another country with a secret super-weapon, an alien invasion, or something else.  He had to chain her to the wall until he could talk to her because, if she leaves the bunker, she will die, since the air is contaminated.  Opening the door would also kill him and the other person he has saved, Emmett (John Gallagher).  Could this really have happened?  Is he psychotic with paranoid delusions, or a psychopath who has kidnapped her and has evil intentions? As you watch the film, you are essentially clueless, but the mystery eventually reveals itself.

The acting is great, especially Winstead and Goodman.  It will work fine as a rental, but is good enough to see now on the BS.  If I were you, I’d be a guest at “10 Cloverfield Lane” for a couple of hours.

I have loved the movies ever since I saw “The Wizard of Oz” as a young boy. When Beatle-mania hit the USA, Rock-N-Roll was my greatest passion, but I haven’t enjoyed the current music scene nearly as much over the past 15 years, so that void has been filled by film. In college and med school, I would see movies with my friends and we would stay up late into the night chatting about them. I still love seeing movies with friends and then having dinner to discuss them. This blog evolved out of my desire to tell my movie-loving friends about movies I thought they would enjoy. The blog allows me to do this in a fun way and to reach movie fans everywhere.
